Hopefully simple question

Postby dan321 » Thu Mar 07, 2013 11:27 pm

I have read everywhere and can't seem to find a simple answer.

I have a Pogo V2 and already have Arch installed on it.

All I am looking for it to do is share files that are on its hard drive with my brother who is stationed overseas. Just some video streaming and pics etc etc.

Is there a simple solution for this or am I stuck with a headache of an install?

I want him to have private access from anywhere on the internet but am not sure if ftp/samba or what to use.

Thanx
Dan

If you don't need any other features then just use stock installation as it will be the easiest. Otherwise you can get my.pogoplug.com to work in alarm by following the link in my signature. I don't know if video streaming works though.

Yea I think what I need is the ability for him to stream it from his laptop through HDMI to his tv or to be able to download it like an FTP.

Thanks for your response

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('dan321', 'Y')ea I think what I need is the ability for him to stream it from his laptop through HDMI to his tv or to be able to download it like an FTP.

Do you have enough upload bandwidth to stream? Most people do not. Also beware monthly bandwidth caps of your ISP.

Streaming is pretty slow on the pogoplugs, unless you set the resolution very low and pre-transcode all the video, but he can download using the pogoplug software. If you are determined to use the plug, that would be my recommendation.
Another alternative is to use google drive, you could upload the larger files there and he could download them from there. It would likely reduce the bottleneck.
