Hostname not working since systemd update

Postby bob8889 » Sun Mar 17, 2013 9:57 pm

I have Arch Linux setup on a PogoPlug E02 which I am using as a Samba server, MiniDLNA and Transmissiond. I've upgraded to systemd but now the Win7 machines and WD TV Live can't see the samba server but MiniDLNA and Transmissiond work.

I've run "hostnamectl set-hostname alarm" per the Network Configuration wiki but this didn't work. Although if I run hostname, it returns "alarm" the hostname.

I've restarted the system a couple of times but I can't ping the host name from the Windows machines.
I was able to map the network drive using the IP address.
So the only thing that doesn't work is the hostname.

Any suggestions.

Samba used Netbios for naming, so unless you have *properly* configured your windows & dhcp server, it won't work with that, and will fall to netbios. With systemd you need to start smbd & nmbd seperately. Also, the netbios name does not automatically match the system hostname.
