cubieboard instructions

Postby karzzon » Wed Apr 17, 2013 12:56 pm

What is up with the install instructions on this website? I first got a beagleboard and could not get those instructions to work thought at least the steps completed. I just tried to install arch on my cubieboard but when i get to the second last step 'cp cubieboard*.bin /tmp/boot/' I get this error

cp: cannot create regular file '/tmp/boot/cubieboard_512.bin': No space left on device

Seriously why have these instructions if they do not work?

You botched a step.

Anyone on here have a more informative reply. I followed the steps one by one plenty of times and I always get stopped at the same step.

For a more informative reply you need to first make a far more informative post that shows in as much detail as possible everything you did.

This always boils down to a botched step, usually from ignoring errors in steps and blindly continuing onward. We generate instructions based on how we got things working, and the instructions do work.

As an aside, drop the insulting attitude and you'll find us much more willing to help.

I have no other errors to give you guys. Only error I get every single time is

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'cp: cannot create regular file '/tmp/boot/cubieboard_512.bin': No space left on device')

and sometimes

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'cp: cannot create regular file '/tmp/boot/cubieboard_512.bin': device is read only')

The boot loader is written with dd and I get no errors

I mount the partitions to the created directories in /tmp and get no errors

I only get errors while copying the .bin files to the boot partition.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')his always boils down to a botched step, usually from ignoring errors in steps and blindly continuing onward. We generate instructions based on how we got things working, and the instructions do work.

I was told in another topic that I need to pay attention to the sector the first partition starts on for there to be room for the bootloader to be dd'ed to the space before it.

This sounds very advanced and is not in the instructions.

The conscious act of deciding to use Arch, in and of itself, implies that you understand advanced topics. This is not a beginner distro.

If you were going to read anything, you should have read the first part of my post that you quoted. Given the continued lack of specificity on what you've done to get to that point, the original assessment is all that's possible: you botched a step somewhere. You're either not partitioning, formatting, or handling the files correctly. I had no issue duplicating the instruction steps here.

I am sorry for the lack of information. I was thinking only errors before not how I interpreted things and I know know what info was needed from reading the other topic I have also been replying to.

As for using arch meaning I should have advanced knowledge. I find using arch on a desktop extremely easy and have been for over a year. It is just these arm boards with their different quirks just to get them to boot that has been throwing me off.

If you need "clean" ArchLinux on your Cubieboard, and you're familiar with GParted or fdisk(to create partitions on your SD card), you can use by script. Installation is very primitive. Check it out: http://edwardsarkisyan.com/2013/06/02/i ... ubieboard/
