Why kernel load wireless module on Pogoplug 4/Mobile ?

Postby dhead666 » Wed Apr 17, 2013 12:17 pm

I've posted on doozan's forums but maybe the developers here could shed some light on the matter.

Why the r8712u (for others it's rt2870) is loaded on boot ?
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'u')sbcore: registered new interface driver r8712u

Is there any wireless usb device on the board ?
It looks to me that no device is available, so the kernel just auto load the module.
It also seems that I can't unload the module or blacklist it

why don't you run "lsusb" and find out for yourself? Usually kernel wouldn't load a module if it didn't need it.

Unless of course the middle is built into the kernel

@moonman, this was the first thing I did (and ip addr), I failed to find any useful info.
I might mention that the kernel doesn't load the firmware (rtlwifi/rtl8712u.bin).
I also looked at /sys/module/r8712u and from my limited knowledge (and in comparison to a r8712u usb device that I've got) it doesn't seems that a device is registered.
