How Format Goflex home 2 TB

Postby thomasmoura » Fri May 31, 2013 3:38 am

Hello guys,

I own a 2 TB Goflex home. I was having problems to delete some files. Then I used a sata to usb adapter to try to erase through windows 7.
When a connected the drive to the computer, got message that the drive wasn't formated, and asked if I wanted format it. I acidentally said yes, then the disk was formated in NTFS.

But now, when I put back to base, the base cannot recognize the hard disk.

Since it is not recognizable, I cannot format with Goflex web management.

How can I make the harddisk recognizable again? What specific way should I format it? Was the disk originally formated in ext3?

I know this forum is for archlinux instalation, but I m sure you know a lot about the guts of the Goflex home and surely know what is going on and how fix the issue!

Don't know what it was previously, but i would guess it was ext3 since I don't think ext4 is supported by the kernel that came with the device. Try ext4, if it doesn't work, use ext3. YOu can use Kubutnu live cd/dvd/usb stick to make it work. (search for partition editor) or Parted Magic http://partedmagic.com/doku.php?id=down ... agpxXy5QUQ

I used the command fdisk -l

Disk /dev/sda: 2000.3 GB, 2000398934016 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 243201 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes

This doesn't look like a partition table
Probably you selected the wrong device.

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sda1 ? 120528 234814 918008208 7 HPFS/NTFS
Partition 1 does not end on cylinder boundary.
/dev/sda2 ? 119381 153271 272218546+ 73 Unknown
Partition 2 does not end on cylinder boundary.
/dev/sda3 ? 113202 147075 272087568 2b Unknown
Partition 3 does not end on cylinder boundary.
/dev/sda4 ? 177064 177067 27487 61 SpeedStor
Partition 4 does not end on cylinder boundary.

Seems the disk formating is all fucked up...

With fdisk available in goflex, is possible to format the disk to ntfs? How do this in a way that windows can access it via sata?

I have a Goflex home 2 TB as well. fdisk is ok for formating your disk, you may read manual more carefully to complete your intention. 你可以使用“分区助手”完成格式化,如果你能看懂中文的话
