[SOLVED] what happened to <pacman -S udev-automount>

Postby permitivity » Sat Jun 15, 2013 7:16 am

I've been using this command to install auto-mount function for USB drives.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'pacman -S udev-automount')

But, now when I run it, it tells me that udev-automount is not found.

I've tried using
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '
pacman -Sy udevil
systemctl enable devmon@root
')

But that doesn't seem to work either. Nothing in my /media folder.

Is there some new way to auto mount? I'm a newbie. I kinda thought I had Arch installs down, but now things that once work no longer work.

udev-automount caused issues with ntfs volumes on systemd and was removed.

systemctl enable devmon@root, you did enable it but did you reboot OR start it?

systemctl start devmon@root ?

Hey Moonman,
Yes, I've tried restarting a few times, re entering the <systemctl enable devmon@root>, and I've tried <systemctl start devmon@root> now too. When I plug in a USB drive, it doesn't automatically create a directory and mount the drive like I think it should.

I used Obihoernchen website as reference: http://obihoernchen.net/wordpress/770/p ... rch_linux/

I've tried reinstalling udevil. Still no go.

On webmin, I can see udevil running:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '
') 74 root 13:20 /usr/lib/systemd/systemd-udevd
103 root 13:21 /bin/bash /usr/bin/devmon
281 root 13:21 /usr/sbin/udevil --monitor

A bit off topic, but I can also get away with running a command on start-up, something like "mount /dev/sda1 /media/usb1". But I'm not sure how to do that. The stuff I've been able to google suggest using rc.conf, but that seems to not be used with the current archlinux version. I'm not sure how to use systemctl to run the mount command instead of sending it a service name to run.

Check dmesg after inserting the flash drive and systemctl status devmon@root

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('moonman', 'C')heck dmesg after inserting the flash drive and systemctl status devmon@root

Well, I went to try it, now it's behaving differently. I took the drive out, stuck it back in, and it showed up in /media now. It snows up as "sda1-usb-_Patriot_Memory_". Thanks Moonman.

I tried rebooting a couple times to double check, and it's working consistently. Before, I didn't try taking the USB drive out first before rebooting or before the systemctrl commands. When you told me to retry it, I took the drive out, rebooted, then stuck it in. I don't know if that makes a difference. Maybe someone in the future will read this and find out that's what the issue is.
