out of memory attempting to start mysqld

Postby tomschlintz » Sat Jun 29, 2013 5:20 am

Anybody else been successful loading LAMP on a Pogoplug 4? I can run Apache, Perl, PHP just fine, but when I try to install mariadb, I get an "out of memory" error attempting to start mysqld. I'd like to run postfix to be able to send e-mails, and mysql seems to be required for this. Thanks!

You will likely need swap file/partition. There's a thread on this forum about optimizing mariadb memory usage as well.

...and postfix does not at all require mysqld (or any database) as a back-end.

Ah! Thanks for mentioning that. It's easy to go off in the wrong direction with this stuff.

I did some back-tracking and I got into mySQL walking through the Wiki Postfix article here:

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Postfix

Step 6 started digging into mySQL configuration. I'll go back and see how far I can get with Postfix w/o it.
