No network access to GoFlex Home 3TB

Postby Jesperdb » Sat Aug 24, 2013 5:06 pm

So i got my goflex home 3TB running with archlinux for a few days, even got samba installed at it worked like a charm, i then decided to fire it up today and play with it a bit more.

Now it aint responsive to SSH, cant find it on the network not even with an IP Scanner.

It had a static IP but its not responsive on that either.

i tried following this post viewtopic.php?f=18&t=3312&p=19207#p19207

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '1'). Download a Linux Live CD (get kubuntu live cd, it's more like windows)
2. Burn and boot that cd on your PC (or use a USB flash drive, whatever works for you)
3. Connect the flash drive you want to boot from to this same PC
4.Go to K --> Applications --> System --> Partition Editor
5. Format this flash drive(hard drive) as ext3 for GoFlex (ext2 for the rest), mark it as bootable (just in case), label it "rootfs". Make sure rootfs partition is <=20GB.
6. After it's done formatting, remove and reinsert the flash drive. Open file manager and open this flash drive at least once (so it gets mounted)
7. Open terminal and copy paste the following (not everything together, but line by line)

Code: Select all
sudo su
cd /media/rootfs
wget http://archlinuxarm.org/os/ArchLinuxARM ... est.tar.gz
tar xvzf ArchLinuxARM-armv5te-latest.tar.gz
sync #may take a while
cd /
umount /media/rootfs

8. Remove flash drive. You should be able to boot from it now

But its just flashing green, and have done that for about 30 mins...

help pls :)

Now its solid green!

And i got SSH Connection.

But as i tried to use all the 3TB (had a 2TB boundary before) i did make a 20GB partition for Alarm and a 2.8ish TB partition for media, but my goflex wont detect the disk as 2 partitions. whats my next step from here?

Well, now im so far in the process that i can startup my GoFlex and connect to it with USB plugged in and SATA disk afterwards, but i cannot boot the GoFlex without the USB plugged in. Is it just a complete reinstall of alarm?

Complete reinstall won't help. This has been discused many times. You need hybrid MBR

Yea its been discussed a bit, and i have also folllow a few of your guides and tips through out the forum.

Already did configure hybrid MBR through gdisk on ubuntu, but i could have done something wrong :)

Right now im convinced ive installed HMBR on the SATA disk and partioned the disk as 20GB and 2.7ishTB
The GoFlex home box bootloader seems to be in order aswell and it cycles through the SATA and USB looking for something to launch.

The LED also goes Solid green if the USB is plugged in together with the SATA, just no connection

Do you have a guide for setting up HMBR on GoFlex Home?

Did you update u-boot or you're using the one provided in the installation instructions?
Are you trying to boot off of usb or the sata drive?
If you have an older router, there's is a discussion about it as well in one of the recent threads here (i.e. the router refuses to give out an ip address)
Have you setup netconsole to see whats going on at boot?

i updated uboot from the guide in your signature, and im trying to boot on sata with 20gb partition first formatted as ext3.

i have a newer sagembox provided by my ISP and it has given out IP's prior to this problem.

Net console is setup, but havent monitored yet.

Update: Got the GoFlex up and running on a USB now, had some issues getting it booted again then i noticed that the Tar file that i though i had unpacked was sitting there in its Tar.gz :)
So its running on a usb right now, now i just want it to boot up on the first partition on the SATA drive

I had a power take out at my house yesterday, which resulted in no network connection again :/

(Network connection is up again) I went out and bought a new wireless router and plugged it in my ISP provided so now i can manage ips and see releases myself :)

The goflex home now boots with usb and SATA plugged in

Ill try at setup a netconsole today so i can get some troubleshooting going, but havent had any luck with netconsole yet.

Right, so new update here.

I screwed up yesterday, i assigned a static IP to my goflex home and rebooted it, but overnight i forgot the IP.....

So today i just reformatted the USB it boots from and launched the box up again, it was set to boot on USB then SATA, but for some reason it looks like this now:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '[')root@alarm opt]# lsblk
NAME MAJ:MIN RM SIZE RO TYPE MOUNTPOINT
sda 8:0 0 2.7T 0 disk
├─sda1 8:1 0 20G 0 part /
└─sda2 8:2 0 2.7T 0 part
sdb 8:16 1 3.8G 0 disk
└─sdb1 8:17 1 3.8G 0 part
[root@alarm opt]#

So for some strange reason it booted on the SATA anyways? :P

What should i do now to assure that it will stay this way, and still boot on SATA if i remove the USB, any specific things i have to do?
