How to format 3TB drive as ext3 [Pogoplug Pro]

Hello, I've just bought and connected 3TB USB drive to my Pogoplug Pro (Oxnas). Drive gets recognized and mounted as NTFS with no problem. But I'm not happy with performance so I want to format it as EXT3.

I guess I have to do some magic with GPT and gdisk and than use mkfs.ext3 ... could you please give me some advice how to do it?

P.S.: Can be a swap partition created on the same drive or swap should be enabled through swapfile?

Just remove all partitions and create new ones with gdisk. Swap partition can be created still, but you can use swapfile if you want. if unsure read man gdisk or gparted on your pc.

thank yo uvery much for your replys. I thought there is more magic involved in formating and mounting >2TB drives.

Now running drive with ext2 (for performance) with no problem

I think it's a terrible idea, especially on a 3tb drive with possibly lots of data later on. ext3 wont slow it down that much, but your data will be safer.

/ == ~20G is plenty, ext3/4
/media/whatever == everything else, ext4 w/ extents
