Unable to login via SSH using default 'root' and 'root'

Postby Yodha » Fri Sep 13, 2013 3:41 am

Hi guys, I am beginner in linux;
**Did explored forums via search and googled a lot before posting it here**
**The reason I am posting this here, because I am unable to login into successfully installd(I guess) Arch linux via SSH
Problem: unable to login(using SSH) to arch linux arm: after installing it on my android device:
I used : Linux deploy to download arch linux with following settings:
mirror: http://mirror.archlinuxarm.org
type : arm( I forgot to change it)
username: android
ssh : enable
GUI : disable(didn't instlld desktop(as I prefer cmd line))(also I have low speed internet in my area)
while I was wathing the installation process: I saw that total download size was around 25-27 MB(confirming that only core utilities were installd) and also saw the packages getting installd (I have booted ARch linux on raspberry-pi earlier)
every thing went perfect.
I guess many of us here must have worked at lease once with this app;
I used three different SSH clients(VX connect, Juice SSH and Connectbot) to login in to the machience; everything works perfect :
key gets stored:
I use : root@<host ip address> (which is displayed on the Linux installar interface once you start the instance)
When not connected to internet it's 127.0.0.1
Then I am asked to enter the password which I have tried as :
'root' hoever the authentication fails everytime and I am asked to enter the password again:
I was conncted to the internet while trying to login earlier(Possibility of getting hacked?)
VNC is somehow disabled however I did enabled while installing on the device.

My device specifications(If that could be of any help):
Micromax A11 Doodle(rooted);
Qualcomm Quadcore processer(ARM v7) 1.x Ghz; 512 MB RAM and 1.5 GB internal SD(excluding app storage);
running android 4.1

the one thing I have not tried is porting the image to my laptop and manually editing the etc/shadow file.
If that's the case please suggest the software whcih I can use to rip apart the image(which appers to be encrypted) user permissions: ---rwxr-x; size 882 MB; with md5; and mime is unknown. locatd on phone internal memory.

Please help,
Yodha

Got it, the app modifes the configuration files : I tried android@<host ip> and the password as : changeme as specified in the app description and successfully logged in to the arch linux terminal.
