What is the best way to shut down PPV4?

Postby kssaran » Wed Sep 18, 2013 4:07 am

Hi,

I have read through various forum topic and I don't find any satisfying answer.

Can anybody confirm if poweroff or shutdown -t 10 will properly shut off the ppv4?
My biggest worry is that if I turn the main power off and on again, will I reboot will it boot up properly?
I tried once and in the end, the system was corrupt and somehow I could never ssh back into the device and I had to re-build everything from the scratch.

Now, my ppv4 device is running. I want to get some sure answer/step to swtich the power off properly.

Also when we want to unplug the connected usb drives, is there a way to unmount safely?

Powering off: systemctl poweroff
Unmounting: umount <drive>

The front LED goes off, and any attached drives will spin down.

Thanks again.

My problem is that earlier when I issued poweroff command, I waited for quite long for front LED to go off. But it never did though the HDD spinning has stopped.

I gave a try by swiching off the ppv4 device and switched on again. All I saw through SSH was some junk character

In the end, I tried to recover the OS but I failed and had to revert back to original firmware and do all over from the scratch.

Now the device is still running for 2 days. I don't know if i should shut it down at all if its not going to boot back safely after the switch off and on episode.
