[Solved] ZyXEL NSA325 Install hickup

Bought a cheap NSA325 and am attempting to ALARM it with a Kingston 120G SSD.

Hooked up a serial console and followed the install instructions, with my usbkey containing:

Something is definitely "off" with either your downloads, or your device.

Fixed.

I got the unit cheap With a little research, it turns out the flashing 'system' led indicated that there was problem with the unit. It should have been solid. Who knew?

Attaching a serial cable to the unit, I found it booting to busybox, but failing to partition the system per the reason above. Apparently, this happens to a noticeable number of NSA325's. Over on http://zyxel.nas-central.org/ there are instructions on where to obtain v4.5 firmware that can be installed from busybox (Google for NSA325_450AAAJ1C2_UpgradeKey.zip). In brief, extract the firmware .zip to a FAT USB and mount it to /mnt/parnerkey on the NSA325. Then install the firmware with /mnt/parnerkey/usb_key_func.sh

Did that - looks like there were some bad blocks in the nand. Overwrote it all and I have a solid green system led. Upgraded to v4.61 firmware via web interface. Then wedged in a 2.5" SSD and installed Arch in three minutes.

Wicked.
