You could install and enable fake-hwclock, which sets the clock early during boot-up to the time of the previous shutdown. Then you shouldn't need ntpdate, which anyway might be taking too long to be of much help.

ops, right is not enable ...

Anyway, I don't understand, maybe I'm wrong, but whit ntpdate disable, how is possible that the system after a boot take the correct date?

I mean, the nas bootup, and the date is the original 1970, and after few seconds, became the actual date, so I think that must be present already a service that adjust the date, and is not ntpdate, right?

So, is better enable the ntpdate or use the one that I think the system use?

Right Geoff, the goal is to have a fast and minimal nas, so only the right and usefull service, no crap or other, only what I need.

Tnx pepedog, very usefull page, but my inexperience is the best in this thinks! :D

I'm trying to set up rtc, but no success.....

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'sudo timedatectl
Local time: Sat 2014-02-22 00:04:33 CET
Universal time: Fri 2014-02-21 23:04:33 UTC
RTC time: Thu 1970-01-01 02:24:03
Timezone: Europe/Rome (CET, +0100)
NTP enabled: no
NTP synchronized: no
RTC in local TZ: no
DST active: no
Last DST change: DST ended at
Sun 2013-10-27 02:59:59 CEST
Sun 2013-10-27 02:00:00 CET
Next DST change: DST begins (the clock jumps one hour forward) at
Sun 2014-03-30 01:59:59 CET
Sun 2014-03-30 03:00:00 CEST')

I can't find a way to set up a correct rtc time ... any suggestion?
