Stuck after upgrading

Postby jonandermb » Sat Jun 07, 2014 11:50 pm

Hi.
I just downloaded the latest image via torrent. Dd it to my SanDisk 4gb sdcard, booted and went straight to do a
pacman - Suy

After the successful update, I submit the sync command a couple of times to make sure there's nothing left out.

When I restart, it gets stuck on the screen with the fruit on the top left corner a d "welcome to arch Linux arm!"
I thought I was some derp by my side, so I went through all the process again. After 3 times, I don't know what's wrong, it keeps happening.
Any help?

EDIT : I just checked and the /boot folder is empty after the update.

I have the same issue. According to https://mailman.archlinux.org/pipermail/arch-general/2014-June/036468.html and some other threads on the ML it seems to be a problem with systemd 213, the workaround being either to
1) comment out everything except root in fstab,
or to
2) downgrade systemd.

I did try 1), but so far without success. And 2) is impossible as my system doesn't boot up.

EDIT: Maybe it is another issue altogether, but the coincidence (same symptoms, same upgrade) suggests we are dealing with the same problem.

Well, I'm somehow relieved knowing I'm not the only one.
It would be nice to somehow track the problem and know when we are able to update the system again.
Any clue how to?

Another idea I've got might be start from scratch, but before updating, skip updating systemd, configuring pacman.conf... i think i'll give that a try

Hello,

I am having same problems after pacman upgrade.

I used a Archlinux box to downgrade systemd to v212 on Pi's rootfs (Pacman with --root and --arch switch) but the problem persists. Anyways I am not sure if I did the downgrading correctly compared to chrooting which was no option due to different host/client architecture.

Update: Reinstalled the vfat partition on sd-card from ArchLinuxARM-2014.06-rpi.img (I do have the rootfs on usb-hdd) and its working again.

Reinstallation of systemd fine too, did a few reboots - everything working.

Edit: Reinstalling linux-raspberrypi gets you back to the initial problem :/ So no real solution.

What do you mean by "reinstalled the vfat partition"? I'd like to try as well, if you can elaborate a bit, I'd be grateful.

By reinstalling I meant using 'dd' (Win32DiskImager on Windows) to put the installation image to the sd-card as described in the installation instructions. This was only applicable tho as my rootfs is _not_ on the sd-card.

You could try to only copy the vfat partition files from the installer image to your vfat partition on sd card.

I noticed that as well. Installing linux-raspberrypi-latest seems to work though.

I can confirm that as of the morning of June 11th this issue still exists. Upgrading a fresh install results in an unbootable system.
