[Solved] Pogoplug wont boot after update

Postby PeterV » Tue Jun 10, 2014 2:41 am

Yeah I got bit by the sytemd bug in the latest update.

Is there anyway to fix this on a Pogoplug (E02), right now it won't boot, it just hangs at
systemd[1]: Failed to mount cgroup at /sys/fs/cgroup/systemd: No such file or directory

I have a serial port installed and can get into U-boot.

I'm fairly experienced with Linux, but this is the first time I've tried running it on an ARM processor and I have no experience with u-boot.

Thanks

It's the kernel + systemd, not uboot. There are multiple threads, but the basic gist: load up the linux-kirkwood package or downgrade systemd, and viola.

Hi,
So, to stay updated we need to install the new uboot :

Pogoplug V2 E02 (uboot-pogo_e02)
Seagate Dockstar (uboot-dockstar)
Seagate GoFlex Home (uboot-goflexhome)
Seagate GoFlex Net (uboot-goflexnet)

Then, linux-kirkwood package ?
Thanks

Ok, so how do I downgrade systemd if the system won't boot? I'd rather not start over from scratch because I'd lose all the work I've done so far.

I do have other thumb drives so I could start from scratch on one of those and then use the system to try to fix this one, if that's possible.

I also have other linux systems available, but they don't run Arch and/or Pacman.

FWIW I knew it wasn't a U-boot issue, I just wasn't sure if I needed to do something in U-boot to fix it (i.e. load a different kernel, etc.)

You can make a bootable USB out of another drive, boot with that, then chroot & fix without having to reinstall.

Solved

Fixed it.
If anyone else is having the same problem, what I did use another computer to downloaded the linux-kirkwood core from:
http://us.mirror.archlinuxarm.org/arm/core/
Extracted it into a temp directory and then grabbed the /boot/uImage file from the temp directory and copied it over the /boot/uImage on the thumb drive for the Pogoplug. It booted right up after that.

Thanks folks, especially to Warhead for helping me to realize it was just the kernel image that needed to be replaced.
