Just How Do You Get This System Installed ????

Postby Brodo » Fri Jan 16, 2015 12:18 am

I only tried SIX times to get ArchLinux installed on my Qbox-i4 Pro....

Twice using Solid Run's "Ignition" Installer, twice using a "make-sd" file and twice using the method described in the ArchLinux pages

Of the six tries, the two using Ignition were the most successful (at least it booted), however on the first try most of the ALSA and other sound files were missing and on the second try, a good chunk of the video files were missing, so I went from no sound to no X-server (sometimes you just can't win :( ).

With both the attempts using the "make-sd" method, the box began to boot, but half way through it started to shut down CPU's until the process ground to a halt.

With the ArchLinux method, it would not even attempt to boot.

Using the exactly the same hardware I had no troubles getting operational on the first try with Geexbox and OpenELEC.

What am I doing wrong ? Is there a 4th install method i can try ?

The only supported way is http://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv7/freescale/cubox-i
If you use those others then check /boot/uEnv.txt for where the rootfs is, and fstab mounting the /boot partition if needed (upgrade of kernels)

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')he only supported way is http://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv7 ... le/cubox-i
If you use those others then check /boot/uEnv.txt for where the rootfs is, and fstab mounting the /boot partition if needed (upgrade of kernels)

I tried that method, it's the one that gave me two total failures. Qboxi did not recognise the SD card in any way manner or form :(

No alsa files are installed default, and hdmi sound is not default. No video files are installed either, but hdmi console should work

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'N')o alsa files are installed default, and hdmi sound is not default. No video files are installed either, but hdmi console should work

Well that solves one problem :)
How do you install ALSA and the video files ? According to the wiki, the ALSA files are part of the kernel, I looked but I couldn't find them in the Repo.

Q2) What is the command line for the HDMI console ?

TIA
