TonidoPlug and GPT support

Postby phireph0x » Wed Jul 08, 2015 3:44 pm

I have a GPT-formatted USB hard drive with Arch Linux ARM and am trying to boot to it from my TonidoPlug (v1). I've seen indications that the stock U-Boot on the TonidoPlug (dates from 2009) doesn't support USB drives with GPT-formatted partitions. Is this true?

Next question is, does the Marvell Kirkwood U-boot mentioned here support the TonidoPlug hardware? If so, it seems that I can simply upgrade my U-boot to get GPT support, in order to boot from my USB HD.

Thanks.

Seems like it is not supported in 2009 UBoot version. I see patches dated late 2012 that added GPT support to mainline U-Boot. Tonidoplug support hasn't been mainlined too so it isn't a simple matter of rebuiling the current version.

I noticed the same thing regarding GPT patches, just wanted to confirm.

So you're saying that the current U-boot doesn't have Tonidoplug support? If there's a pre-release version I'd be willing to test.

What I am saying is that there is no support in mainline U-Boot at denx.de . There is only that 2009 version built by manufacturer who never submitted its patches to the main guys who develop U-Boot. I have no device to support it myself.

I see. Well I noticed a SheevaPlug link in your announcement post, and TonidoPlug v1 is based on the SheevaPlug reference board. So I was thinking that the SheevaPlug release could be nearly or fully compatible and may work on the TonidoPlug.

You are free to try sheevaplug uboot. See if it boots with kwboot. I can email the files to you or you can wait till I get proper internet connection so that the files are accessible again online.
