RPI2 - transmission-cli - missing config folder

Postby basica » Sat Aug 29, 2015 7:25 am

I recently installed arch linux and along with it, transmission-cli as it's what I have been using on my pis for sometime now and quite like it. Anyways, as far as I know the config folder should be in /var/lib/transmission/.config, however the .config folder appears to be missing.

I've tried reinstalling it, but it's exactly the same. Any suggestions, or is this potentially just a bug that I should report via the Github tracker (from what I read in the forum announcement)?

Thanks for any help! :)

EDIT: Believed there was an issue with the webpage but was mistaken so removed that section.

OK, so after some further investigation, the .config folder is in the root user's home directory, and the process transmission-daemon is running under root when I believe it should be running as the user transmission, though this may have changed I'm not sure. Can anyone confirm? Or perhaps I'm doing something wrong?

EDIT: notice if I run the program without sudo it runs as my user (understandably) and also creates a config folder in my home directory.

Are you starting transmission with systemd service?

That explains it, thanks. Feel like a bit of a fool now...

EDIT: In case someone makes the same foolish mistake as I did, do not run transmission-daemon directly but instead run "systemctl start transmission" to start it, and "systemctl enable transmission" if you're wanting it to start at boot.
