This forum post claims that TPv1 doesn't support a serial console http://www.tonido.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2535&f=32 (not sure if this is reliable)

I'm not opposed to serial and will purchase the hardware, but I haven't found a reliable guide of how to do so. Information out there on serial access for TonidoPlug v1 seems conflicting. Any leads in the right direction are appreciated.

Another source indicating that TPv1 doesn't have a serial connection:

That should work, yes. Do not connect the Vcc

The USB TTL cable arrived and I've opened up my TonidoPlugv1. The TTL plastic pin covers are too large to fit over the tiny, closely arrayed UART pins on the TPv1 board. I've cut the plastic TTL covers and am trying to connect raw stranded cables to the individual pins. Still very challenging, as the UART pins are spaced very near each other.

Looks like I'll need a different cable. This one isn't going to work, and I don't want to inadvertently fry my TPv1 by connecting raw cables to pins. There's no way I can see to prevent individual cables/strands from touching each other.

Looks like a standard connector type. Can't remember the name of that one though
