C1+ install

Postby jamesmccanna » Wed Sep 16, 2015 10:28 pm

Hi,

Newcomer here. I have successfully installed and used Lubuntu from the Odroid repositories on my C1+. So, I know the SD card is compatible. I reformatted the SD card and have tried several times to install and boot Arch (much preferred for me) and all I get is a red light that turns on and nothing happens. I have it hooked up to a monitor with a HDMI to VGA adapter. Works fine with the Lubuntu setup.

I have explicitly followed the installation instructions on the Archlinux/ARM page for the Odroid. I really want this to work as I hate the Ubuntu environment.

Hi,

Responding to myself with another question. I have both a PI2 and an Odroid. I can get Arch working on the PI but not on the Odroid. The installation instructions differ in that the PI2 gets a root and boot partition whereas the Odroid does not. I wonder why that is?

Thanks to anyone who replies.

I think this comes from the bootloader. When you look at the installation instructions for RP2 you see that the format the partition with fat. This implicates to me that the bootloader is only able to boot from fat partitions whereas the odroid bootloader is able to boot from ext partitions. So there's no special need to provide a separate partition.

Is you Odroid requesting an ip via DHCP? When not I would suggest that the bootloader isn't setup properly. You might double check the bootloader installation.

Re: C1+ install - SOLVED

Hello,

I am happily installing Arch on my Odroid after following the suggestion of another poster (whose post I cannot find at the moment but thanks a ton!). During the initial fdisk setup the Arch Installation instructions say to just hit Enter twice for default settings.

The default settings for sectors is 63. I explicitly entered 2048 instead of the default 63 then hit Enter. I followed the rest of the install and ran sync after the bsdtar and after running fusing_sh and after backing out of root/boot.

It works now and I am very happy.

That information should definitely be added on the instructions page.

Hello,

I have successfully gotten the base install done on my SD card but am having trouble with a DE. Having initially chosen XFCE4 the results are less than satisfactory.

The desktop background is all black and I cannot see very much at all. If I move the mouse very slowly I can see a shadow of it.

In doing that I have tried to change the background colors per the DE settings box with no luck.

Does anyone have a recommendation or suggestion on how to fix it or if LXDE would work better? Or Gnome?

I am really trying to keep the install lightweight.

Thx,

James
