[SOLVED] smbd service fails to start

I am posting this as I was struggling to find out why samba stopped working, and would fail to start and figure I'll save the next person some hassle. It seemed unlikely to be the samba upgrade as it was released a couple days earlier and was working fine up until last night. Anyways, after much searching it appears to be a bug.

Fix per the arch wiki can be found here but to save you checking the link, the fix is:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('arch wiki', 'C')heck if the permissions are set correctly for /var/cache/samba/ and restart the smbd.service or smbd.socket:
# chmod 0755 /var/cache/samba/msg
