Problem with raspberry2(armv7) and RTL8188cus wifi

Postby doubleshik » Tue Dec 08, 2015 9:53 am

Hi all. I have some problem when I using wifi dongle. It's EP-N8508GS.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'lsusb') shows
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'Bus 001 Device 004: ID 0bda:8176 Realtek Semiconductor Corp. RTL8188CUS 802.11n WLAN Adapter')

and my $this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'uname -a') is
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'Linux alarmpi 4.1.13-1-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Fri Nov 13 20:11:44 MST 2015 armv7l GNU/Linux')

I have tried many ways to enable it , but I failed. I thought the kernel is too high for this wifi dongle?(kernel 4.x)

Does anyone have solved this problem . Or some ways to downgrade the kernel.

Same problem, looking forward to it.
The Realtek only give Linux Kernel 2.6.18~2.6.38 and Kernel 3.0.2.
I wonder is there another solution.

I had the same problem with the RTL8188EUS on my RPi 2. The firmware was missing from the OS.
I solved it using the following steps.

My lsusb
Bus 001 Device 005: ID 0bda:8179 Realtek Semiconductor Corp. RTL8188EUS 802.11n Wireless Network Adapter

My subset of dmesg
[ 10.978231] r8188eu: module is from the staging directory, the quality is unknown, you have been warned.
[ 10.997818] Chip Version Info: CHIP_8188E_Normal_Chip_TSMC_UNKNOWN_CUT(10)_1T1R_RomVer(0)

In my case the driver was present but the firmware was missing.
You should also see a reference, in your dmesg output, to the fw .bin file and where the OS expect to find it.
Something along the lines of: (my firmware is in place so I don't have the exact message anymore)
Firmware rtlwifi/rtl8188eufw.bin
r8188eu 1-1.5:1.0

I had to:
1) create the directory: /lib/firmware/rtlwifi
2) download firmware: https://github.com/lwfinger/rtl8188eu/b ... 88eufw.bin
3) copy firmware to: /lib/firmware/rtlwifi/
4) reboot

This solved my problem, hope it works for you.

Do you have 'linux-firmware' installed? An easy way to check packages for files is to use pkgfile:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'pkgfile rtl8188eufw.bin
core/linux-firmware
alarm/dkms-8188eu
')

dkms-8188eu is for devices with older kernels that have no in-tree driver.

moonman: Thanks for your reply and sorry for the delay.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('moonman', 'D')o you have 'linux-firmware' installed? An easy way to check packages for files is to use pkgfile:

I do NOT have linux/firmware installed for my rtl8188 device. My OS is 4.1.15-2-ARCH
Where can I verify and download the correct and latest package from?

TIA

thanks for your prompt reply and sorry confusing the issue.

I already have the latest linux firmware installed:
core/linux-firmware 20151207.bbe4917-1

I was under the impression, from 'moonman's' comment, that I was using an out of date firmware for my Realtek 8188 WiFi dongle. It's the rtl8188eufw.bin file I a was actually referring to above as to whether I should be on a different and later version.

TIA.

Hello, as a newby I post here just for one specific question (and maybe help)
I am a self declared audiophile with unfortunately few time and thin wallet. So the idea of a rpi audioplayer is very interesting to me, but I don't just wanna follow the masses.. Either i want to hear and deside what i feel is best. So I want to hear the difference between al the players (volumio, Moore, rune and few more) myself but unfortunately I'm stuck with a rtl8188eus based wifi dongle. I got it easily running with volumio but now I want to install the others on different sd cards. So I can swap the when they are all installed. While running with different setups. (Mostly not mine)

As I'm not familiar with archlinux, getting quite interested now but as said not much time and I understood from the non arm archlinux site that time investment is expected which i respect ofcourse just don't have for hobbies, which this is.

But to run rune i will to install the drivers for this dongle which I understood as not working perfectly.
As I don't understand what the difference will be between drivers for Debian based systems and arch Linux I felt the list of rtl drivers which I found for raspbian might be of some help. These drivers, rather current i believe. And also high kernels.

Quite a list of different drivers.. Could these or (parts of) be used for a voor stable functioning driver which works with arch linux?

https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/view ... hp?t=62371

On the other hand, the bold question if any of you could help with a tutorial on how to 'installatie' that on arch / rune?
Andere ifso, please do not expect knowledge beyond basic Ubuntu type of coding.

I would be really greatfull!

Kind greatings. Hope I could help!
