Chromebook flip won't boot anymore

Postby yaroze » Mon Sep 12, 2016 9:06 pm

Hi

I was loving my little arch laptop but can't boot anymore. I did run 'sudo pacman -Suy Firefox' today and now I can not boot!

Any ideas what it could be how I can fix it?

It seems to be having issues at the graphical interface stage.

FAILED to start Simple Desktop Display Manager

Then it just hangs, can I make it skip starting sddm and try and revert my updates?

I fixed it by logging in chromeOS and moved the sddm.service and booting allowed me to fix the problem and then moving it back again.

How do I get to the boot menu to change kernel parameters?

I'm not sure how to fix your specific problem, but if you press Ctrl+Alt+F2 or any of the other F* buttons it will switch you to a different tty. From there you can login and stop the sddm service and disable it so you can boot to the command line and figure out what is going on.

Maybe try reinstalling sddm?
