[linux-espressobin] SATA is not working

Postby boorg » Tue May 28, 2019 8:59 pm

Hi,

with the latest update a disk connected to SATA is not recognized, as if it was not connected. No /dev/sda* files, no trace in dmesg or lsblk. Replacing the /boot/dtbs/marvell/armada-3720-espressobin.dtb with the old one fixes the issue. I took one from http://os.archlinuxarm.org/os/ArchLinux ... est.tar.gz generated at 2019-May-06, which is still available.

Using old .dtb USB3.0 is working. I didn't check it but here is a report that it was not working either.

I am facing the same issue. Unfortunately I am not able to find any older image.

When I boot Armbian or Ubuntu, SATA works just fine, so it is not definitely a HW issue.

I tried to create a pull request to allow the missing Marvel's SATA kernel module to build and load: https://github.com/archlinuxarm/PKGBUILDs/pull/1708 .

I finally used a workaround:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'pacman -U http://tardis.tiny-vps.com/aarm/packages/l/linux-espressobin/linux-espressobin-5.0.11-1-aarch64.pkg.tar.xz')
and configured pacman not to upgrade kernel.

But this is not a solution. :)

Right, as I wrote above, this is just a workaround.

According to this discussion (espressobin device tree with kernel 5.1 RC) there was some change between 5.0 and 5.1 kernels causing this issue and does not seem to be solved yet.

Updating the bootloader (from armbian https://dl.armbian.com/espressobin/u-boot/), as mentioned here https://archlinuxarm.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=65&t=13659#p62020 seems to fix the issue.
