pine64 rock64 fails to boot

Postby nemnob » Sun Jul 09, 2023 9:09 am

Hello,

I followed this guide: https://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv8/allwinner/pine64 to install arch on an sd card and then successfully boot to rock64, but I did the mistake and run "rm /boot/boot.scr" and now Im unable to boot again.

After than I tried following again the same steps (from step 5-10) a couple of times but I always get the same result, the monitor does not display anything.

Any ideas on what is going on and how I can debug this?

Why did you follow the Pine64 instructions for the Rock64? They're different boards with different hardware. Using the files for Rock64 should work better.

Why are you using an image for the pine64? You seemingly have a Rock64 which is not an Allwiner chip, it's a Rockchipmake_clickable_callback(MAGIC_URL_FULL, '
', 'https://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv8/rockchip/rock64', '', ' class="postlink"')

If the guide still works I am not sure, there was a point you needed newer u-boot versions for newer kernel versions, there are multiple threads here on the forum you could check

The first time I followed the correct guide and booted successfully.
After breaking the boot I followed the incorrect guide (pine64 instead of rock64) by mistake

Running the steps 5-10 (from the correct guide) on the existing sd card still does not fix my issue.

I'm assuming that I dont need newer u-boot versions because this worked at the first time.
Do I need to completely wipe the card and start over again? (instead of re-running the 5-10 steps)
Does anyone know if the board is keeping a cache/memory? if it is do I need to reset it somehow?

Update: powering the device again fixed the issue!!
(thanks for the pointer to the correct docs, I feel really silly now :D )

I probably would take a new sdcard make full install and chroot on the old one and doing the u-boot update instructions. I would guess that should fix it.
Probably you only need to run mkscr in the /boot but this happens automatically when you update/reinstall u-boot as far as I remember

EDIT: too late :D
