[cantor] installing knewstuff5 breaks dependency for cantor

Postby dylanchapell » Sat Oct 21, 2023 11:33 pm

Many KDE packages have been renamed to <kde package>5 to prepare for version 6. Two of these packages are ktexteditor and knewstuff becoming ktexteditor5 and knewstuff5. When I run this update, I get the message
error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
:: installing ktexteditor5 (5.111.0-1) breaks dependency 'ktexteditor' required by cantor
:: installing knewstuff5 (5.111.0-1) breaks dependency 'knewstuff' required by cantor
This happened with other packages like telepathy-kde-meta and kfloppy, but I did not need them so I removed them. Unfortunately, cantor is a dependency of kde-education-meta which is a dependency of kde-applications-meta so I cannot remove cantor and thus cannot update.

Exact same problem- I noticed that Arch upstream has fixed it, but Cantor exists on the ALARM GitHub.

From the ALARM PKGBUILD:
depends=(analitza libspectre ktexteditor knewstuff libqalculate qt5-xmlpatterns qt5-tools qt5-webengine poppler-qt5)
From the Arch Linux PKGBUILD:
depends=(analitza libspectre ktexteditor5 knewstuff5 libqalculate qt5-xmlpatterns qt5-tools qt5-webengine poppler-qt5)
It does not appear to be being fixed anytime soon.

I created a PR to fix this issue: https://github.com/archlinuxarm/PKGBUILDs/pull/2013
In the meantime, I fixed this for myself by making the change to the PKGBUILD and building myself.
