I just checked and the administrators of this forum (there are 4 of them) haven't even visited the forum for years. Only one of these four has a visit recorded in "August" of this year. The rest have abandoned it.

There is one "moderator" who is called @graysky whom has a visit recorded for today. He seems to be the most active (or shall i say the only active) member. Other moderators are also "years" away from their last visit.

Try writing a pm to graysky, maybe he would respond. But really, seeing the arch arm forum at this state is rather saddening. ALARM could be the best linux for arm devices out there but there seems to be a lack of communication between the devs and the users. That should not be OK.

@graysky is great.

Yes, archlinuxarm is far from what it was. Lots of people would love to help, but cries are falling on deaf ears.

For at least a month now, the main arch arm repo address also gives 404 errors. I had to put in the mirrors by hand to avoid that. Some packages received absolutely no updates for months, including the very popular "chromium" browser. I also know that a lot of people who are trying to register to this forum can't do that because there is some kind of problem. This "decay" is not a good sign. Something is going on. Please do not let arch arm die. We love it. It is the best Linux distro for arm devices. I have been saying this everywhere. I am on EndeavourOS currently and i love it. It would be such a disappointment to let it go. I am 100% sure that there are a lot of people out there who would love to contribute and make things better. But of course somebody has to let them.

I stumbled about the following article in the cachyos forum from 2024:make_clickable_callback(MAGIC_URL_FULL, ' ', 'https://discuss.cachyos.org/t/arm-future-for-cachyos/727/2', '', ' class="postlink"')

the bad state seems to be a known issue and might improve once the ports RFC will be implemented in archlinux:
make_clickable_callback(MAGIC_URL_FULL, '
', 'https://gitlab.archlinux.org/archlinux/rfcs/-/merge_requests/32', '', ' class="postlink"')make_clickable_callback(MAGIC_URL_FULL, '
', 'https://gitlab.archlinux.org/dvzrv/rfcs/-/blob/rfc/arch_linux_ports/rfcs/0032-arch-linux-ports.rst', '', ' class="postlink"')

but who knows when this will finally be implemented. :-)

Is there any chance we could get a warning next time? Is there possibly some visible status page so we'd have an idea how long things will take? I completely empathize that sometimes builds and whatnot will take a while but it's hard to tell if the repos are down for reasons that are related to some kind of outage or something mundane that we can see is a certain percentage complete.

Some announcement would be nice, until then just use curl to query your favorite mirror:

% curl --headmake_clickable_callback(MAGIC_URL_FULL, ' ', 'http://nj.us.mirror.archlinuxarm.org/aarch64/sync', '', ' class="postlink"') 2>/dev/null | grep Last-Mod
Last-Modified: Thu, 18 Sep 2025 02:52:01 GMT

Until that updates, you know that mirror sync has been paused for a major rebuild.

Is this still happening? I see linux-rpi 6.12.55 onmake_clickable_callback(MAGIC_URL_FULL, ' ', 'https://archlinuxarm.org/packages/aarch64/linux-rpi', '', ' class="postlink"') , but trying to get packages out of any mirror fails. The last mirror I got pointed to was last synced 18th Sep.

Thanks for the updates. We are back in business.

PS: Please don't forget chromium.
