[Dockstar] Can't reinstall ArchLinux after Rescue system

Postby francois » Sun Mar 25, 2012 3:20 pm

Hi all,

first of all, sorry for my poor English, I'm just a French guy ;)

I will try to explain my problem precisely :

1/ Got a Dockstar, install ArchLinux with the very clear tutorial
2/ Install the Rescue Sytem by Jeff Doozan
3/ After few days without using the Dockstar, I tried to connect to it, it was impossible, so I reboot it => It didn't boot on archlinux but only on the Rescue System :(
4/ The wrong idea I think => tried to reinstall ArchLinux from the tutorial
5/ I started from point 4, because I thought that the bootloader is already ok (am I wrong?)
6/ Everything in the tutorial was ok since the point 6 "Create the ext2 filesystem"
The following error message appears when I enter the command "./mke2fs /dev/sda1" => "-sh: ./mke2fs: not found"

I would very appreciate if someone could help me!

Thanks in advance and hope that my English is clear enough

Since you skipped step 3, you need to $this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'cd /tmp') from step 3 to be able to continue on. Also, try to use ext3 filesystem instead of ext2.
Your English is great, don't worry about it :)

I'm a n00b with Linux but not totally, so I did the cd /tmp before doing the point 6 :)

How could I try ext3? I thought that the mke2fs is the command to create the ext2 filesystem, isn't it?

Did you wget the mke2fs then? mke2fs -j will make you ext3 with journal. You need to change uboot variable rootfstype or something like that to ext3. Search my posts in the forum

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('moonman', 'D')id you wget the mke2fs then?

Oh yes, I tried to wget the mke2fs many times, but when I try to execute it, I got the error. Do you think ext3 will solve my problem

You should be able to run e2fsck from the rescue system if it is installed. See if mke2fs is installed as well. I am not familiar with the rescue system that you are using. I would use a linux live cd and reinstall alarm using the computer. Ext3 will help you avoid file aystem corruption after you reinstall.

The strange thing is that mke2fs seems to be installed as you can see on the below screenshot :

I really don't understand the error message :(

You simply don't have it downloaded to tmp. But as WarheadsSE said, "mke2fs /dev/sda1" instead of "./mke2fs /dev/sda1" should work as mke2fs comes preinstalled with your rescue system.

I thought I have tested this option, but it seems not!

The mke2fs without ./ works perfectly, thank you very much!
