Preparing to install with SAMBA on a new POGO-E02

Postby bermmakiah » Thu Jan 10, 2013 1:13 pm

I'd like to know if the following is a good plan.

I'll be doing everything from Windows 7 x64, so I'll have EaseUS Partition Master Home and Ext2 IFS installed to format the storage drives and copy existing data to one of them. I also have ExtraPutty for SSH duties. Prior to installing I'll register with pogoplug servers to verify everything is working ok stock, then I'll run the instructions from here and here, and should then hopefully be in business.

Sound good? missing anything?

You don't necessarily have to reformat the storage drives, unless you are intending to put the rootfs on them. A LiveCD or USB-boot linux might be a safer route. Mint seems to be decent, along with CinnArch.

So no problem with NTFS for storage, but I'll get noticeably better performance (and journaling) if they use ext3? (All my drives should be less than 1TB for the foreseeable future)

Yes, you will get better performance with ext3 than ntfs, any day.
