Looks good. If you remove the sata drive it shold boot up. To boot with the sata drive yo will have to use initrd and and specify boot partition by label instead of /dev/sdXY.

Thanks for all your help. It is seriously appreciated. While I've got your attention, I was hoping to ask another question or two.

Should I be worried by any of the errors or missing files listed by Uboot? I'm not sure what a fresh environment looks like but I saw some errors there and want to make sure it's not hurting anything or there aren't some performance benefits I could be taking advantage of.

You mentioned booting using initrd. I am not very familiar with that. Would it be possible to follow the instructions you've already listed below to boot from SATA and then USB. I'm pretty sure I could strip out the relevant commands and execute them in the Uboot environment:

Don't do sata first if you are planning to boot from USB. In the guide, start at this point:
"Note: There are some reports that USB booting does not work while sata drive is in." just after GoFlex H/N instructions. I did provide uInitrd. All you need to do is boot using just the flash drive, follow the instructions, and then you will be able to boot with the sata drive insterted (from usb).

I think I'd like to revert back to running Arch from the HDD and return to a completely fresh system, if possible. (I've diverted somewhat from your instruction to pursue this. My apologies for continuing to ask for help.)

I've already made an attempt, unsuccessfully. I followed the instructions here up to number 3, http://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv5 ... oflex-home.

I then successfully completed the guide you posted for updating the kernel to >3.2. (viewtopic.php?t=3355)

Booting with the SATA and USB works fine. Booting with just USB plugged in does fine as well. Booting with only SATA plugged in results in a flashing orange light.

Again, I'd just like to return to a fresh environment and run everything from the HDD.

It seems like you don't have /boot directory with the kernel on the sata drive. I would boot with both usb and sata and copy /boot over to sata.

Copied the /boot from the USB to the SATA drive. Still no luck. The LED blinks orange indefinitely.

Thinking it may have been a change I made to the Uboot environment, I ran through the steps to boot from SATA then USB. Tried to boot with no luck. Then I ran through the steps to boot from USB then SATA, no luck as well. Lastly, I reset the Uboot environment to known good values using the install_uboot_mtd0.sh script.

My drives are partitioned as:
/dev/sda1 1GB swap
/dev/sda2 10GB boot, root
/dev/sda3 1.81TB everything else

That's the problem. It is looking for /boot on the 1st partition. I would repartition the drive to have 1st partition as your rootfs and boot and the rest as you wish to keep the environment more or less standard.

Well crap. I got anxious and I felt bad for taking up your time.

I followed the guide to reflash to stock in the community guides section. It worked.

I then followed the guide to install alarm as if it were brand new. It didn't work. I partitioned the drive just as mentioned before. I think it has something to do with it.

Now I need to boot from USB to fix it but it won't boot again. What do I need to tell this thing in the serial console?

That's ok, I don't mind helping. 3.9.2 won't boot with Ubit and that's what you have if you went to stock and just followed the official instructions. It also doesn't find the partition with the kernel on your sata drive because it's not the first one. You need to prepare another flash drive with the kernel 3.1 (it is part of the official tarball). Just use instructions in my signature (reinstalling from scratch)
