About to get a free Dockstar. Can ALARM still be put on it?

Postby yazyazoo » Mon Jun 03, 2013 3:04 am

I am about to get a free Dockstar from a friend. I was wondering if I will be able to put ALARM on this? I thought I remember something where ALARM couldn't be installed if it was activated with Seagate or Pogo servers. Is this true?

Also which would be the preferred USB port for ALARM installation?

Thanks.

Welcome to alarm community :)
I think it still work, no promise though
Make sure your dockstar is stocked (which has pogoplug services in it), and you can access the SSH terminal.
Read Installation here, make sure you understand everything before proceed

For the USB question, the UBoot will try all USB slot, so you should be able to boot the drive (make sure only one usb thumb drive is inserted during testing)

You don't need to have SSH access, if you have a Linux computer (Live CD should work) (OSX might also work, but I don't know), then you could prepare the USB stick on it. You would then need to access U-Boot via serial console and set the bootcmds correctly.
This is what I did with my Pogoplug Mobile which was already activated and SSH was locked.
So long story short: If you can get a free Dockstar, take it!
