Booting from 3TB hdd (E02 plug)

Postby Schuyler » Sun Jan 05, 2014 9:16 pm

So, things went well when I booted from a 2GB flash drive, however I've recently decided to go to a single external hdd to run my plug. I have a USB 3.0 (but shouldn't matter since e02 is usb 2.0) 3TB WD external hdd. I set up a 4gb ext3 partition, and the rest is unallocated (planned on just making the rest an ntfs partition when i got ALARM running.) However, it doesn't seem to want to boot into ALARM (goes straight to plugOS). I've read some things about uboot not liking hard drives over 2TB. Is this likely what my problem is? I would use netconsole to check it, but I only have a windows PC available to use atm, and haven't had much luck getting nc to work on it (Though i may have just misconfigured it on the plug side).

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('moonman', 'H')ybrid MBR is required.

I've searched around without any luck so far. Any good tutorials on how to set up a hybrid MBR?

That's a great question... any good tutorials.... I have been looking for a few days. Did you have any luck? Lets document it for others. I too need to get over this hurdle.

This link does a great job with documenting the install process... wish they would do something for those of us attempting this on big external drives.

Would love to see some more info then just "gparted" or RTFM or Hybrid blah blah..... how about some steps from SSH'd into the pogoplug... like starting with...
1. install gparted with the following command xxxxxx?xxxx?
2. plug that big drive in
3. create 3 partitions... boot, swap and everything else (I think)

Anyone? Help...thanks.

You should search on the forum. There's at least 3 threads about this.

I think this post summarizes it well: viewtopic.php?f=53&t=2611&start=30#p14953

There should be a new build coming for the E02 that has GPT enabled.

When I am done with the u-boot upgrades for it, yes. Right now I am testing that.

I also need to safely disable that damned watchdog MCU during u-boot.
