Seagate Goflex Home - issue with reinstalling

Hi,

so I had this problem with my Seagate GoFlex Home device getting bricked after pacman update:

It bricked again and I have no idea how to restore it. I unpacked the whole structure on the disk, but I cannot see the disk get it's DHCP address - it runs with self-generated IP and (169.254.x.x) and sends ARP requests looking the 10.0.0.x addresses, similar to these ones:

I got lost and could use some guidance. What would be your next shot ?

Can you walk me through how you "unpacked the directory structure"?

What machine did you do it on? Was it a linux machine?
Did you reformat the drive?

Sure! I:

1/ Attached the drive to SATA port in my desktop (regular PC with regular x86).
2/ Launched Parted Magic OS (Linux distro from Universal Boot CD).
3/ Followed steps 3 and 4A from: http://archlinuxarm.org/support/reinstallation
4/ Detached the drive from SATA port in my desktop.
5/ Attached the drive in GoFlex Home adapter.

How old is this installation? did you ever update u-boot?

1/ My u-boot was installed (I guess) around march-april 2014. It did not come to my mind to update it, wasn't sure that is even possible/needed.

2/ That what I get when connecting my laptop with Kali linux directly to the NAS (see attachement 1

It is just like nothing happens apart from the device sending me one time an ARP request (visable on the screenshot). Should I be using a switch? Should I be typing something in one of this nc?

Did you make alias? e.g. ifconfig eth0:0 10.10.10.5 where eth0 is your wired interface (it could be different for you, check what it is)

Correct, I have eth0 as the interface name and I have placed the aliases in place (as visable on the screenshot).
So, any idea how to tackle that?

1. nc with udp on a different subnet can be temperamental. Make sure you are on a wired connection connected to the same switch with the GFH.

2. Try to reinstall once again, but change something since it didn't work last time. Try the instruction in my signature, maybe try a different LiveCD distro. Use this tarball this time (if you didn't before): http://archlinuxarm.org/os/ArchLinuxARM ... est.tar.gz
I tried a different sata drive last night and everything works which means you are not doing something right.
